
Circa 1820. 17ins high by 10.5ins wide. Verse Sampler by Ann Simpson. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to board with chipboard and brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours magenta, cream, yellow, green, white, pink, blue and black.
Verse reads
'If angelf fung a saviourf birth
On that aufpiciouf morn
Then let uf imitate their mirth
Now he again if born
Himfelf he humbled to the grave
Made flefh like uf to fhew
And we af certainly fhall have
A refurrection too'.

A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a squirrel, a swan, lions, birds, potted flowering plants, fir trees, trees, crowns and angels
CONDITION: Generally good. No holes. A number of pale stain specks/foxing.
No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
