
George IV, dated 1835. 10ins high by 10ins wide. Small 1835 Sampler by Ann Boutle.
Framed in an old, 'molded composition over wood' frame, with rippled, old glass.
Stitched to paper with wood backing.
The sampler is very finely worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, gold, red and pink.
Verse reads,
'With care and cost this have I wrought
and finish with A Virgin thought
and by this work you plainly see
the care my prents took of me'.
Signed and dated,
'Ann Boutle Her Work Done 1835'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including fruit baskets,
birds,
angels,
potted flowering plants,
crowns,
hearts,
butterflies,
diamonds
and stars.
CONDITION: Good.
A few small holes.
A few stain specks.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
