
William IV, dated 1832. 15ins high by 13ins wide.
1832 Sampler by Anne Lawrence. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, dimpled, old glass.
Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with wood and brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours yellow, cream, green, gold, white, black, pink and pale blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-15
Verse reads,
'Love and kindness please god more
Than if we gave him all our store
And children here who dwell in love
are like his happy ones above'.
Signed and dated,
'Anne lawrence Aged 15 Years 1832'.
A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including fruit baskets,
dogs,
birds,
flowers,
potted flowering plants,
trees, laden with fruit,
stags,
squirrels,
fir trees,
a parrot
and butterflies
CONDITION: Good.
A couple of tiny holes.
No stains.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
