Antique Sampler, 1758, by Elizabeth Mowll

George II, dated 1758. 16.5ins high by 8.25ins wide. 1758 Sampler by Elizabeth Mowll. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Stitched to card with card backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

No border, divider lines in various patterns.

Colours light green, blue and red.

Verses read,

'Lord How Delightful Tis To See A Whole Assembly Wo

rship Thee At Once They Sing At Once They Pray They

Hear Of Heaven And Learn The Way'

'I Have Been There And Still Would Go Tis Like A little

Heaven Below Not All My Pleasure And My Play Should

Tempt Me To Forget This Day'

O Write Upon My Memery Lord The Texts And Doctrines

Or Thy Word That I May Break Thy Laws No More But

Love Thee Better than Before'

'With Thoughts Of Christ And Things Divine

A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including fruit trees,

birds,

fir trees,

flowers

and fruit basket

CONDITION: Very good. No holes.

Two small stains.

No stitch losses, just a couple of loose threads under the glass.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
