Antique Sampler, 1837, by Anne Lumley

William IV, dated 1837. 19ins high by 16ins wide. 1837 House Sampler Anne Lumley. Framed in an old maple veneer frame, with gilt slip and glass.

Fixed to linen with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours green, light brown, gold and black.

Verse reads,

'If I am right thy grace impart

Still in the right to stay

If I am wrong O teach my heart

To find that better way'.

Signed and dated, 'Anne Lumley Aged 13 1837'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden, stars, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, stags, fruit baskets, fir trees, fruit trees and baskets of flowers

CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.

Some stitch losses to the border and motifs.

Colours are somewhat faded, but still well defined. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
