
George III, dated 1808. 15.5ins by 13ins wide. 1808 Sampler by Ann Hollingworth. Framed in an old wood frame with non-reflective glass.
Fixed to board.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours black, cream, copper, pink, green and blue.
Verse entitled,
'FILIAL DUTY '
reads,
'Honor thy Parents to prolong thy End. With them,
tho for a Truth, do not contend. Tho all themselves
defend, do thou chuse rather To hold thy Peace, than
lose their Love for ever. Whoever makes his Parents
Heart to bleed. Shall have a child that will revenge'.

A few motifs including potted flowering plants, fir trees
and decorative dividing lines.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A number of small holes, repaired.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
The silks bright and glossy.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
