
George IV, dated 1829. 17ins by 16.5ins wide. 1829 Sampler by Ann Waite. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering leafy border.
Colours green, cream, blue, brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9.
Verse reads,
'Idleness is the bane of everything. It is like the barren foil of which all labour and cultivation
are thrown away. The acquifition of Knowledge is one of the moft honourable occupations of
youth. Let integrity and uprightnefs preserve me. For I wait on thee'.

CONDITION: Good.
A few patchy stains.
Minor stitch losses to the divider lines.
Some colours faded making them difficult to read.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
