
Victorian, dated 1838. 14.75ins high by 14.75ins wide. 1838 Multiplication Table Sampler by Mary Taylor. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with non-reflective glass.
Mounted onto card with a brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, cream, blue, green and copper.
Verse reads,
'I sigh not for beauty. Nor languish for wealth
But grant me. Kind provide. Ce. Virtue and health
Then. Richer than kings. And more happy than they
My days shall pass sweetly and swiftly away
for genuine happiness we need not roam
Tis doubtless found with little and at home'.
Signed and dated, 'Mary Taylors Work the 9th Year of her age Houghton le Spring 1838'.
Features a mulitplication table to the top section, with title, 'Multiplication Table'.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains. Some stitch losses to the verse, signature, numbers and grid.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
