
Victorian, dated 1856. 17.75ins by 13ins wide. 1856 Sampler by Sarah Soul.
Framed in an old, possibly original maple frame, with gilt slip and glass.
Fixed to linen with wood backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral strawberry border.
Colours brown, cream, blue, green, copper, gold, black.
Verse reads,
'REMEMBER now thy CREATOR in the days of thy
youth. I love them that love me, and those that seek me
early shall find me And I will be a Father unto your, and
ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the LORD GOD
ALMIGHTLY'
and
'Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art
the guide of my youth. Jeremiah III Chapter verse'

A great set of motifs, some finely detailed, including a house with a garden and sheep, potted flowering plants, butterflies, bees and insects and birds.
CONDITION: Good. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Slight colour run to first words on left side of the verse.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
