
Victorian, dated 1842. 15.75 ins by 11.5 ins wide. 1842 Scottish Motif Sampler by Marianne Peattie.
Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours green, blue, red, copper, brown and pink. Family initials EP, WP, JW, JP, GP, JP, IW, GP, JP.
Signed and dated, 'DONE BY MARIANNE PEATTIE APRIL 1ST 1842'.
A good set of motifs, including a thistle,
a house,
dogs,
birds,
flowers,
potted flowering plants, rabbits,
fruit baskets,
deer,
fir trees, crowns, cockerel, fleur-de-lis
and hearts.
CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.
A few patchy stains.
Stitch losses to the border.
Colours good and strong with very little fading. Very slight colour run around the green threads.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
