
Victorian, dated 1843. 12.25ins by 11ins wide. Antique Sampler, 1843, by Eliza Harness.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with cardboard backing.
The sampler is worked in very fine silks on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Floral border.
Colours blues, gold, greens and brown.
Verse reads
'If we love Father,Mother,friend.
More than the Saviour dear,
He plainly tells us we are then
Unworthy of his care.'
Signed and dated, 'Eliza Harness Aged 13 Years 1843'.
A good set of motifs, including squirrels, potted flowering plants and birds.
CONDITION: Very good. A few small holes outside the border at the bottom of the sampler.
A couple of stain specks and slight uniform age darkening of backing canvas.
No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
