Victorian, circa 1840. 16ins by 15.75ins wide. Antique Country House Sampler, by Jean Key. Framed in an old maple frame with glass.

Loose mounted over card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Floral border.

Colours blues, cream, yellow, pale green, gold, pink, brown and black.

Family initials.

Inscription reads,

'Redeem the mispent time thats paft

Live each Day aS it were thy laft

And of thY Talents take great car

For the laft Day thYself prepare

Live mindful of Death'.

Signed

'JeAN KeY MARCH'.

A good set of motifs, including a large country house,

two smaller houses,

dogs,

birds,

potted flowering plants,

stags,

fruit baskets,

crowns,

a peacock and horse or donkey.

CONDITION: Good.

One hole.

A few pale patchy stains.

Stitch losses to the border,

inscription and motifs.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
