
Mid to late 17thC. 29.5ins by 9.5ins wide. 17th Century Band sampler. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground. Divider lines in a wonderful variety of patterns. Colours green, blue, red, white, cream and black. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.
No signature or date. Consists of a variety of elaborately worked floral and foliate bands.
Motifs include: boxers; lions, an archer, acorns, flowers and thistles.
CONDITION: Good. A few patchy stains.
Minor stitch losses to the divider lines and bands.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
