Antique Sampler, 1784, by Jean Davidson

George III, dated 1784. 12.5ins by 12ins wide. 1784 Adam & Eve Sampler by Jean Davidson. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours red, blue, green, black, white and brown.

Family initials, RD & MA. Verse reads,

Was NaKed and I hid mYself'

A few motifs including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, potted flowering plants and a figure

CONDITION: Good. Uniform age-darkening of the ground. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
