Staffordshire Pearlware Sir Thomas Moore Wall Plaque

pre-Victorian, circa 1790. 6.7ins high, 6.1ins wide, 0.4ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery pearlware plaque which features a portrait of a gentleman, resting directly on the ground, no base.

Flatback, decorated only to the front.

This piece represents Sir Thomas Moore, an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman and noted Renaissance humanist. He was also a councillor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor of England from October 1529 to 16 May 1532. Book reference not found. 193, figure 1.

Condition

Good. Three small flakes to reverse.

A few minor paint losses to raised molding.

RESTORATION: One small piece of projecting scrollwork remodelled.
