Pair Large Staffordshire Pottery Pugs

Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 12.2ins high, 5.5ins wide, 7.7ins depth.

Pair of Staffordshire Pottery figures which feature a legs-free pug, seated directly on the ground, no base.

We think they have possibly been matched up together at some stage because they both face the same direction. However, we feel they display very well together.

Bright gilt embellishment.

Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Vent hole to the underside.

Condition

Figure 1: Good. No restoration. Some rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: touch marks to the body;

shrinkage line along the mold join to the top of left front leg.

Figure 2: Generally good. No restoration. Small chips to left ear.

Some rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;

shrinkage lines along the mold join;

touch mark to the reverse;

kiln soot caught in the glaze to the reverse.;

shrinkage crack to the underside of left hind foot.
