
George II, dated 1736. 7.5ins by 8ins wide. 1736 Sampler by Mary Cartwright. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to card.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours red, green and blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.
Inscription reads

tho POOR he IS onLY Rich thAt
DOth DeSIRe NO MORe'.
Signed and dated
' MARY CARTWRIGHT HER SAMPLER NOVEMEMBER THE 30 1736'.
A scattering of motifs, including, crowns and diamonds.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A few patchy stains.
No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
