Rare Pair Mafra Majolica Palissy Mouse Candlesticks

Victorian, circa 1890. 6.3ins high, 3.5ins wide, 3.5ins depth.

Pair Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica candlestick holders which feature a mouse climbing a tree.

Colouration: brown, green, ochre, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

Condition

Candlestick 1: Good. Some small flakes to base rim and green shredded clay.

KILN EFFECTS: glaze run to the green glaze.

RESTORATION. Filled chip to mouse's right ear.

Retouched flake to mouse's left ear and base rim.

Candlestick 2: Good. Some small flakes to the green shredded clay.

KILN EFFECTS: glaze run to the green glaze;

shrinkage crack to the mouse's left foot.

RESTORATION. Filled chips to both ears.

Retouched flakes to base rim.
