
George III, dated 1808. 13.5ins high by 12ins wide. 1808 Sampler by Elizabeth Witham. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, yellow, copper, white, black, red and pink.
Verse reads
'Eternal God in thee I trust
That Thou art Holy good and Just
The rolling Years proclaim
Amidst Con?ulsions new and strange
Thou canst not err and wilt not change
thy love is still the same'.
Signed and dated
'Elizabeth Witham 1808'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,
fruit baskets, flowers
and fir trees
CONDITION: Good.
A couple of holes.
Patchy staining to two of the corners.
Some stitch losses to the signature
and verse.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
