Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral strawberry border.
Colours green, copper, black, cream and blue.
Family names stitched either side of the house:
'Peter Robertson. Margaret Robertson. Jannet Robertson. William Robertson. Charles Robertson. Peter Robertson.'
And lastly, the sampler appears to be signed in black, 'David Robertson'.
Although it is very unusual for a male to stitch a sampler, it is not unheard of.
Place and date, 'Ely 1806'. Ely is a town in Cambridgeshire, England.
A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a ship,
a house,
birds,
flowers,
rabbits,
potted flowering plants
and peacocks.
CONDITION: Good.
A few small holes.
A few patchy stains.
Some stitch losses to the motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
