Victorian, dated 1846. 20ins high by 24ins wide.

Antique Sampler, 1846, by A Roberts. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with brown paper backing.

The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Decorative border.

Colours blues, light brown, white, black, magenta, pinks, biege and red.

Signed and dated, 'A Roberts her work Aged 15 1846'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a farmhouse with animals and couple in the grounds,

lions, Adam & Eve standing either side of the fruit laden tree of life, a snake coiled around its trunk,

birds, stags, fruit baskets,

a temple entitled 'Tower of Babylon', a ship and a church.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
