
William IV, dated 1836. 16.25ins by 13.25ins wide. 1836 Sampler by Ann Neil. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border. Colours greens, cream, pale blue, white, browns and pink.
Verse reads, 'Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand
As the first effort of an infants hand
And while her fingers o'er this canvafs move
Engage her tender heart to seek thy love
With thy dear children let her share a part
And write thy name dear Jesus on her heart'.
Signed and dated, 'Ann Neil Aged 7 Years 1836'.
A good set of motifs, including lions, crowns, birds, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, fruit baskets, fir trees and a butterfly.
CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.
No stains other than slight darkening of the ground along the top edge.
No stitch losses.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
