Antique Sampler, 1797, by Grace Goodluck

George III, dated 1797. 14.5ins by 12.5ins wide. 1797 'Proverb' Sampler by Grace Goodluck. Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours red, green, dark brown, copper, gold, black, pink, blues and white.

Inscription reads, 'XXX1 CHAP: PROVERB

She feeketh wool and flax, and worketh

willingly with her hands.

She is like the merchants fhips, fhe bringeth

her food from afar.

She rifeth also while it is yet night, and

giveth meat to her houfhold, and a portion

to her maidens.

She confidereth a field, and buyeth it: with

the fruit of her hands fhe planteth a vineyard.'

A wonderful floral border and a few flowers to the centre

CONDITION: Good. A few holes.

No stains. Minor stitch losses to the border.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
