1843 Sampler by Mary Ann Marchant. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, cream, blue, dark brown, navy blue and light brown.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.
Inscription reads
'JESUS My Saviour All Devine Behold A Worm
And One Of Thine Borne UP By Hope I Look
On The Who Dyed To Save A Wretch
Like Me'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Ann Marchant Age 6 Years 1843'.
A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,
birds
and fruit trees.
CONDITION: Good.
A few small holes and some loss of ground to the extreme edges.
No stains.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
