
George III, dated 1783. 11.5ins high by 12.5in wide. 1783 Map Sampler by Elizabeth Caroline Foskett. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Map grid-reference border.
Colours red, cream, yellow, light brown, copper, black, pink, blues and greens.
Depicts a map of England and Wales with counties and surrounding seas and islands. Unusually, this sampler has some of the major rivers of the UK marked.
Signed and dated 'Elizabeth Caroline Foskett 1783'.
CONDITION: Good. A number of small holes.
Two pale stain specks.
No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
