
Victorian, dated 1839. 13ins by 12.5ins wide. Antique Sampler, 1839, by Mary Ann Truman. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with cardboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border. Colours browns, cream, gold, greens and blues. Alphabets A-Z in upper case
Verse reads,
'PRAISE YE thE LORD. Blessed is the man
that feareth the LORD. That delighteth great
ly in his commandments.'
Signed and dated, 'Mary Ann Truman aged 9 years 1839'.
A good set of motifs, including three houses, fruit baskets, crowns, birds and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes.
A couple of patchy stains and uniform age darkening of backing canvas.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
