Antique Sampler, 1798, by Sarah Goodwin

George III, dated 1798. 17ins high by 12ins wide. 1798 House Sampler by Sarah Goodwin. Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours red, cream, yellow, light brown, gold, black, greens and pale blue.

Signed and dated 'sarah Goodwin June 23 1798'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a man stood in the doorway, stars, dogs, birds, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, stags, a lady holding a flower basket, a butterfly and diamonds.

CONDITION: Good. A few small holes, and losses to the bottom edge.

 

One pale stain.

Very minor stitch loss to one of the fruit tree motifs.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
