Antique Sampler, 1832, by Mary Jackson

William IV, dated 1832. 21.75ins wide by 18.75ins high. 1832 Sampler by Mary Jackson. Framed in an old wooden frame with non-reflective glass.

Fixed to card.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground.

Meandering floral border.

Colours black, cream, copper, brown and blue.

Inscription reads

'A good education is the greatest of all advantages, and those to whom we

are indebted for our good principles demand our warmest gratetude. If

youth be trifled a way without improvement manhood will be contempt

able, and old age miserable'.

Signed and dated,

'Mary Jackson Work August 28th 1832'.

A good set of motifs, including a church (perhaps an old school house),

stars,

a dog,

birds,

fruit baskets,

a squirrel,

fir trees,

trees,

angels

and a folly.

CONDITION: Good.

A few old tack holes to the extreme edges.

No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
