Antique Sampler, 1842 by Margaret Miles

Victorian, dated 1842. 16.5ins by 12.5ins wide. 1842 Sampler by Margaret Miles. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours greens, cream, blue, gold, pink, black and brown.

Verse reads,

'Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth while the

evil days come not nor the years draw nigh when thou shalt

say I have no pleasure in them'.

Signed and dated,

'Margaret Miles worked this sampler A D 1842 Aged 14'.

A good set of motifs, including a large fruit tree,

dogs,

birds,

potted flowering plants,

butterflies

and flowers.

CONDITION: Good.

A few small holes.

One dark stain to the extreme left edge.

Very minor stitch loss to the border.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

The silks bright and glossy.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
