
William IV, dated 1836. 20.25ins by 18.75ins wide. 1836 Sampler by Harriet Carter. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border. Colours greens, cream, pale blue, white, browns and pink.
Verse entitled 'HARVEST HOME' reads
'This is the field.the world below.
In which the sowers come to sow,
Jesus the wheat.Satan the tares,
For so the word of truth declares,
And soon the reaping time will come
And angels shout the harvest home.'.
Signed and dated 'Harriet Carter Aged 13 Years 1836 Bristol'.
A good set of motifs, including a country scene depicting a lady walking her dog, fruit baskets, game birds, and oak tree and birds perched on branches.
CONDITION: Good. A couple of small holes and one small repair to the border.
Very minor patchy staining.
Minor stitch losses to the border.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Very slight colour run around the pale blue threads.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
