1833 Scottish sampler by Elizabeth Ross. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, black, red and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-13, and family initials.
Signed and dated, 'Elizabeth Ross Aged 16 1833'.
A few motifs including peacocks, crowns and flowers.
CONDITION: Good. One small hole.
One stain.
Some stitch losses to the border,
divider lines and letters/numbers.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
