Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Fixed to cardboard with a textured card backing board.
The sampler is worked in silk and fine wool on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Brightly coloured in red, cream, blue, yellow, dark brown, white, pink, orange, greens and black.
Verse reads,
'Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand
As the first efforts of a youthful hand
And while her fingers oer the canvass move
Engage her tender heart to seek thy love
With thy dear children let her have a par
And write thy name thyself upon her heart'.
Signed and dated 'S Scholefield 1833'.
A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,
dogs,
birds, flowers, fruit baskets,
fruit trees,
squirrels,
fir trees,
butterflies
and stags.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stitch losses. Colours are bright and almost unfaded. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
