Large pair Staffordshire recumbent whippets with hares
Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 8.1ins high, 10.6ins wide, 4.1ins depth.
Pair of Staffordshire figures with a hunting theme which feature a whippet with a dead hare, recumbent on a shaped base.
Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Vent hole to the underside.
Condition
Right facing: Good. No restoration. Two hairlines to underside.
Small flake to left front paw and right ear.
Paint loss to right eye.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the muzzle;
shrinkage crack to the right hind paw;
craze line to the whippet's neck.
Right facing: Good. No restoration. Small flake to muzzle.
Minor paint loss to right eye.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;
craze line to the whippet's neck.
