Pair Staffordshire Dalmatian pen holders

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 6.3ins high, 3.7ins wide, 2.8ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire pen holders which feature a Dalmatian, seated on an oval base.





Cobalt blue base version. Dull gilt base line.





Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good. No restoration. Small chip to base edge.



A few paint losses to collar, nose and dog's right eye.









Slight wear/scratches to dog's head and base.





Some rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: slight glaze run to the black spots;



glaze miss between dog's back legs.



Left facing: Good. Rubbing to gilt.



Some wear/scratches to dog and base.









KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage line along the mold join to dog's back.



RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched hairline to dog's left front leg and right ankle.





Retouched flakes to legs, ears, nose and base edge.
