Matched Pair Staffordshire black & white spaniels

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 10ins high, 6.3ins wide, 4.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature black and white spaniels, seated directly on the ground, no base. We think they have possibly been matched up together at some stage because they have significantly different markings. Black and white version.





Bright gilt embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.





Maker's marks no.2 molded into the underside of one only.



Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good. No restoration. Rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage lines down the chest and front legs;



flecks of stray coloured glaze.







Left facing: Good. No restoration. Paint losses to tail.



Slight rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: small firing pit to chest;



two small firing holes to reverse;



a piece of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the reverse of left ear.
