
Victorian, circa 1860. 8.5ins high, 6.1ins wide, 4.9ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery spill vase which features two birds sat either side of their egg-filled nest, perched on an oval base. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.
Decorated mainly to the front.
Fair. Some small flakes to shredded clay.
Some paint losses to birds' eyes and beaks,
and to spill decoration.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to mold join to either side of base,
and one to reverse of spill;
notable crazing;
a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze.
RESTORATION: Old retouching to gilt.
Old degraded filled chip to lower base edge at front.
Old degraded remodelling to wings and tail feathers to upper bird,
and end of the branch it's perched on.
Old degraded remodelling to left wing tip and tail feathers to lower bird.
