
pre-Victorian, circa 1830. 12.8ins high, 7.5ins wide, 4.5ins depth. Enoch Wood Staffordshire Pottery pearlware bust with a religious theme which features Reverend John Wesley.
There is a circular plaque to the reverse inscribed,
'THE REV.D JOHN WESLEY. M.A. DIED MAR 2. 1791. AGED 88. ENOCH WOOD SCULP BURSLEM.'.
Wesley's head and shoulders, stood on a plinth base. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Open bottomed. Maker's marks impressed.
CONDITION: Good.
Small abrasions to the top of the head.
A few paint losses to reverse.
KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the base;
kiln soot caught in the glaze to the front and reverse;
touch mark to the back of the head.
RESTORATION. Filled chip to base corner
and front hem of robe.
Retouched flakes to base edge.
