Staffordshire Pottery tobacco jar and cover which features a spaniel's head, stood directly on the ground, no base.
Bright gilt embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.
Maker's marks painted to the underside.
Jar: Good. No restoration. Some paint losses to russet markings.
Gilt almost entirely rubbed away.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze;
touch mark with associated flake to reverse.
Cover: Good. No restoration. Some paint losses to nose and russet markings.
KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to right ear;
kiln grit caught in the glaze to top of head.
