
Victorian, circa 1860. 8.1ins high, 6.7ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Parr Factory Staffordshire figure with a theatrical and literary theme which features Sancho Panza seated on an ass, stood on a shaped base.
The piece is titled, 'Sancho Panza' . Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the reverse.
This piece represents the character Sancho Panza from the novel 'Don Quixote'. Sancho acts as squire to Don Quixote. Book reference ,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 274, figure 987.
CONDITION: Good. A few paint losses to the ground.
Very slight rubbing to gilt.
RESTORATION. Sancho's right foot and tip to donkey's left ear remodelled.
Retouching to black enamels, reins and hair.
