Staffordshire 'Band of Hope' figure group

Victorian, circa 1860. 13.9ins high, 9.1ins wide, 3.7ins depth. Staffordshire spill vase with a religious theme which features a lady, a boy and a snake, stood on an oval base.

The piece is titled, 'BAND.OF.HOPE' .

Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front.

This piece represents The Band of Hope, a temperance organisation that was formed in 1847 for children who had taken the pledge.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Small flake to flag at reverse.

Some small paint losses to tree, spill rim, her dress, hair at reverse and shield.

Some rubbing to gilt.

Slight wear to his nose.

KILN EFFECTS: fleck of stray coloured glaze to her neck;

staining to craze lines to reverse.

RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses to snake.
