
pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 10.9ins high, 7.1ins wide, 4.3ins depth. Staffordshire pearlware bocage group with a religious theme
which features Abrahamoffering up Isaac, stood on a plinth base.
The piece is titled, 'GENESIS CHAP 22 ABRAHAM OFFERING UP ISAAC' .
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Vent holes to reverse and underside.
This piece represents God commanding Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham obeys without questioning.
After Isaac is bound to an altar, the angel of God stops Abraham at the last minute, saying "now I know you fear God."
At this point Abraham sees a ram caught in some nearby bushes and sacrifices the ram instead.
