
pre-Victorian, circa 1820. Tallest is 11.2ins high, 5.9ins wide, 4.9ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire pearlware bocage figures with a religious theme which feature Elijah feeding two ravens and the Widow holding sticks with her son by her side, seated on a marbleised base.
The pieces are titled, 'ELIJAH' and, 'WIDOW' to the fronts. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside.
This piece represents the Biblical story of Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath.
CONDITION: Elijah: Generally good. Chips to leaf on ground and bocage leaves.
Some flakes to base.
Paint losses to the ground and crow's left eye.
RESTORATION. Remodelled right hand.
Right arm reglued and join retouched.
Middle branch and 3 leaves reglued and joins retouched.
Retouched paint losses to crow.
Filled chips to edge of cloak.
The Widow: Fair. Some flakes to base, ground and her shoes.
Paint losses to ground, barrel her shawl and shoes.
RESTORATION. The Widow's head reglued and the neck join retouched.
Remodelled bocage and tips of sticks.
Retouched paint losses her dress and shawl.
Tip of her nose reglued.
