Staffordshire pottery figure of 'Smith & Collier'
Victorian, circa 1860. 13.8ins high, 8.5ins wide, 3ins depth. Staffordshire figure with a folklore theme which features two men fighting, one holds a pistol,
two dead game birds lay on the ground, stood on an oval base.
White and gilt version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.
Flatback, decorated only to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.
This piece represents Smith & Collier two farmers that fought after an argument about poaching.

Condition
CONDITION: Good.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln grit caught in the glaze to the top of the base;
small firing pits to the reverse;
shrinkage crack under Smith's right arm
and underside of arbour;
shrinkage line to the underside of base;
notable crazing.
RESTORATION. Filled chip to brim of both hats,
section to shredded clay
and one to reverse of the base.
