Pair Staffordshire Pottery doves perched over nests

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 8.9ins high, 5.7ins wide, 3.1ins depth.

Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a bird, resembling a dove, with a nest full of eggs, resting on a circular base.

Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the reverse.

Condition

Right facing: Good. Small flake to bird's tail.

Slight rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: touch mark to one of the eggs;

shrinkage line along the mold join to the birds back.

RESTORATION. Retouched flakes to base edge.

Retouched paint losses to beak, eyes and feathers.

Left facing: Good. Small flake to lower base edge.

Slight rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: a few pieces of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the bird's tail and reverse;

firing crack to the branch.

RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses to beak, eyes and feathers.
