Pair Staffordshire spaniel on cushion inkwells

Victorian, circa 1850. Tallest is 4.1ins high, 5.3ins wide, 2.6ins depth.

Pair of Staffordshire inkwells which feature a russet and white spaniel, recumbent on a tasselled cushion base.



Russet and white version.

Decorated mainly to the front.




Condition

Right facing: Fair. A few paint losses to spaniel's claws.





KILN EFFECTS: small touch marks to either side of the base;





touch mark to the reverse of the base;



small firing pit to spaniel's left ear.



RESTORATION: Spaniel's head reglued and join retouched.





Stabilised and retouched crack to base front.



Stabilised and retouched crack to inkwell.



Two filled chips to base edge.





Retouched paint loss to markings, face and tassels.







Left facing: Generally good.

KILN EFFECTS: small shrinkage crack to the top of the spaniel's head;



small glaze misses to the green cushion;



shrinkage crack to the reverse along the base edge.



RESTORATION: Retouched paint loss to markings, face and tassels.
