
George III, dated 1786. 11.75ins by 11.75ins wide. 1786 Sampler by Mary Hall. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, cream, pale blue, copper, gold, black, pink, red and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-12.
Verse reads
'Give me O Lord thy heavenly Grace
Nor let my soul complain
That the young Morning of my Days
Has not been spent in vain'.
Signed and dated 'MARY HALL IS MY NAME AT TWELVE YEARS HOLD II ROUGHT THE SAME 1786'.
A scattering of motifs, including birds and flowering trees.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Minor stitch losses to divider lines, the signature and letters.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very slight colour run around the dark green threads.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
