Cunha Majolica Palissy toad & lizard wall plate

Victorian, circa 1890. 11ins high, 11ins wide, 3.5ins depth. Cunha Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features a large toad and lizard, surrounded by a smaller lizard, frog, moths, worm and grubs. Colouration: green, brown, cream, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Cunha pottery.

Condition

Good. Chip to underside on foot rim.

Some tiny chips to shredded clay.

Minor flaking to shredded clay and toad's back.

KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze;

shrinkage crack to one grub.

RESTORATION: remodelled head to small lizard.
