Minton Majolica Game Pie Dish with Gun dog (LARGE)

Victorian, circa 1871. 9.6ins high, 16.3ins wide, 8.4ins depth. Minton Majolica game pie dish which features a hunting dog asleep next to a gun, a powder flask and a game bag. Colouration: cream, green, blue, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '964'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1871.

Condition

Dish: Generally good. Flake to one foot.

Light scratches from use to interior.

KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage cracks to handles;

glaze pops to the underside.

RESTORATION: Filled chip to rim.

Retouched flake to bird's wing.

Stabilised and retouched crack running from rim down the side. Another stabilised and retouched crack to the opposite end of the dish.

Cover: Generally good. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops around the rim;

glaze run to the under rim;

a speck of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the basketweave ground.

RESTORATION: Three stabilised and retouched cracks to the rim.
