Minton Majolica Christmas Charger

Victorian, circa 1859. 1.8ins high, 15.4ins wide, 15.4ins depth. Minton Majolica charger, made for the Crystal Palace Art Union, which features a Christmas rose surrounded by mistletoe. The rim pierced with panels of holly.

Putti performing festive activities: one cooking a goose, another warming his hands before a fire.

Colouration: brown, green, violet, are predominant. The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1859.

Condition

Very good. Slight wear to interior.

KILN EFFECT: glaze miss to one scroll

and to ends of violet border on rim.

RESTORATION: Filled chip to under rim.
