
Victorian, dated 1842. 20ins high by 21.5ins wide. Antique Sampler, 1842 Solomon's Temple & Castle Sampler by Jane Jolly.
Framed in a Victorian wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in cotton and fine wool on a canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, green, light brown, copper, pink, orange, grey and blues. Family initials.
Signed and dated 'JANE JOLLY 1842'.
A good set of motifs, including a castle,
hearts,
birds,
flowers,
potted flowering plants,
fruit baskets,
crowns,
Solomon's Temple
and windmills.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes and pulling to the ground.
Two pale stains to both top corners.
No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
